Olympedia – Karly Shorr!
Former Boyne Mountain rider to compete at Sochi
BOYNE FALLS — Growing up, Karly Piper Shorr always had to abide by the rule that her snowboard was to never leave the snow.
That meant no rails, no jumps and certainly no big air competitions.
A competitive gymnast growing up in Milford, her mother Monique Shorr had her reasons like any mom would, of course.
Eventually, Monique would ease up on her resistance when Piper Shorr became more enthused with the sport, and it’s a good thing Monique did, as there’s plenty who would probably like to thank her now.
The U.S.
Olympic slopestyle team and millions of viewers world wide were to see Thursday, for starters, as Piper Shorr, who grew up riding the hills of Boyne Mountain, competed for the first ever U.S. Women’s Slopestyle team in the Winter Olympic games in Sochi, Russia.
“Karly was a snowboarder from the time she was 5 years old, but we never let her do the jumps or the rails because she was a competitive gymnast,” Monique said.
