    Early Life

    Mother Jones was born Mary Harris Jones in 1830 in County Cork, Ireland. During her early years, she and her family fled the ravages of the Irish Potato Famine and moved to Toronto, Canada, Michigan and Chicago, Illinois.

    She attended school in Toronto and began her career as a teacher and dressmaker to become a tireless fighter for the working class.
